For my third project I want to do a person in a cigarette box. It represents the smoking that people with depression and other mental illnesses a lot of times do to "ease the pain".
For my fourth piece I want to do a chair made of empty, old prescription medications and have a figure sitting on it.It represents how a lot of medications are prescribed to those with mental illnesses and how its not always necessary. For my concentration I want to express the journey through depression. These ideas come from my own experience and from people I know. With this subject I hope to start a conversation about mental illness. also have more people take the subject more seriously.
I plan to do 3-D work.I plan to do mostly sculpture pieces. I will most likely use clay, I will also use other random supplies from my own collection. I want to do this because whenever I see pieces done on mental illness it's usually by book defined, which is not exactly how all people experience their own struggles. For my first project I want to do a snake wrapped around a person figure. It represents the fake people aka "snakes" squeezing the life out of a person. For my second piece I want to do two figures huddled together with one resting their head on the other one's shoulder, and to have a heart carved into them.It represents how just having one person can make you feel loved no matter what else you're going through. In my metamorphosis I did nesting dolls with the stages of the growing fetus carved into the surface. I took a risk by trying inlay when glazing which I hadn't done before. As I reflect back on the process I wish I would have made the pieces bigger instead of making the pieces as small as I did.
My theme is forbidden love.I used plaster for the hands, alginate for the mold of the hands, wood, dowel rods to aid in holding the hands in place along with wood glue.My project didn't turn out exactly as I had planned. I had problems with the molding of the hands and they didn't go up the wrist quite as far as I had wanted them to.I solved that problem by putting them up on a wooden block to make the hands higher up. I took risks because I had never worked with plaster and molding objects before and now have learned more so I can develop those skills.
I'm planning on doing nesting dolls of the different stages the fetus goes through during pregnancy. I plan on making egg shapes and the center to be a spherical center of a fertilized egg. I'm carving into the clay in the egg shape as if to represent the fetus in the womb. I plan to clear glaze the fetus and do the outer part in a red glaze.
The theme for my mixed media identity piece was depression and the color I was given was purple. I used collage, marker, acrylic paint, watercolor paint, and oil pastels. For this project I developed my skills of painting because I don't use it often.I also communicated through my work showing my mood and expressing my depression. |
